Grateful Walks: A Mindful Way to Experience Key West

Grateful Walks: A Mindful Way to Experience Key West

🌿 Welcome!

There’s something special about finding your way to a place you weren’t necessarily looking for.

If you’re here from The Washington Post, we are grateful you are here!

You may have been searching for things to do in Key West, places to explore,
or how to experience the island beyond the usual stops.

And while you’ll find inspiration for all of that here…
what you may discover is something quieter.
Something slower.
Something more meaningful.

🌊 A Different Way to Experience This Place

You may have read about the “grateful walks” I take around Key West—
slow, unplanned walks where the beauty of the island reveals itself in small, unexpected ways.

Orchids tucked into quiet corners.
Light dancing across old architecture.
Moments that ask nothing more than your presence.

A Grateful Walk is simply this:

Walking without urgency.
Noticing without needing to capture.
Allowing the moment to meet you.

In a place like Key West, it might look like:

  • Walking along the Atlantic at sunrise
  • Wandering Old Town streets without a plan
  • Noticing hidden gardens, textures, and light
  • Pausing to take in a sunset at Mallory Square

But more than anything…
it’s about presence.

And it’s something you can take with you anywhere.

🐾 How Grateful Walks Began

Those walks began as something simple.
A way to breathe.
A way to come back to myself.

Over time, they became something more.

They became a practice of listening—
not just to the world around me,
but to the quieter voices within.

The part that overthinks.
The part that reacts.
The part that longs for peace.

And something began to shift.

I started leaving my worries at the doorstep before I walked—
not because they weren’t real,
but because I wanted to give myself space to experience something else.

And in that space,
I began to gently fill it with gratitude.

Sometimes just three things.
Sometimes more.

The sound of the ocean.
The warmth of the sun.
The quiet companionship of Bella beside me.

And what I discovered was this:

Gratitude doesn’t ignore what’s hard—
it softens the way we hold it.

It creates space.
It restores perspective.
It reminds us that even within the noise,
there is still something steady, something good, something here.

The more I practiced,
the more I felt it.

The more I slowed down,
the more beauty I saw.
The more clarity I felt.
The more connected I became—
to nature, to life, and to myself.

Grateful Walks grew into reflections, photography, and books,
all inspired by the simple idea that healing and perspective
can begin with a single step.

When the Walk Became a Story

That practice of listening eventually became the books
Grateful Walks – Key West Inspirations and Grateful Walks with Bella.

And then… it became something deeper.

My first novel, The Wisdom Group, grew out of what I began to notice—
that the conflict we feel in the world
often mirrors the conversations happening inside us.

It’s not a book about fixing yourself.
It’s a story about understanding the voices within you—
and what happens when they are finally allowed to speak,
to be heard,
and to work together.

🌿 An Invitation

If you’ve found your way here,
you don’t need to have read the book.
You don’t need a plan.

You’re welcome to simply pause for a moment.

Maybe even try this:

Before you move on with your day,
take a breath…
and notice three things you’re grateful for.

They don’t have to be big.
They just have to be real.

And if you feel drawn, you can explore more here:

🌅 Before You Go

Whether you’re here in Key West
or simply searching for a way to slow down…

You can begin right where you are.

Step outside.
Take a breath.
Walk without needing to arrive.

And notice what finds you.

However you arrived—
I’m glad you’re here.

With gratitude,
Jenny & Bella
