Opening back into the world of wonder

On our grateful walk,
as we encountered lizards, cats, crabs, birds, and bees
that are often on our path,
I became overcome by the thought
of how little I know about the world.
I had no idea what the name of
the tiny, white crab smaller than a dime was,
why Bella was unafraid of the land crab bearing his claws,
why the egret was fluffing his feathers and wings
or who had walked before me on the path
that Bella was free to run
and joyfully explore.

The wisdom of this humbleness
led me back into a world of wonder
where I experience life
as it is
before judging it.

I realized I had unintentionally
cut off the world of wonder
as walls were created around my heart
by the weight of the stories of the past
and chains created by my anxieties
gave me an imagined sense of safety to hold onto
but are what kept me from
exploring the Universe freely.

My heart thanked
my friend humbleness
for leading me back
to the wondrous world
my heart knows as home.

in the world of wonder again
with your heart free to
learn and grow
and gratitude overflowing.
